Welcome to the wonderful world of Jorgensen and all things album design related! If you have read any of our album pages you will know that all our bespoke albums are created and ordered through our Jorgensen Album Designer Software, or as we call it, JAD!
This is a very simple post to welcome you to our software and tips to get you started on your first project in JAD!
STEP 1: LETS OPEN UP JAD…
When you open up JAD for the first time, a CREATE NEW ALBUM Box will pop up. (TIP: If it doesn’t simply click FILE on the top tool bar and NEW ALBUM & MATS from the drop down menu)
STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR PRODUCT
The next few windows will step you through all the choices you have to create your bespoke album design.
Don’t forget you can always go back and change the cover, page and album extra options during the design process so don’t feel too pressured to choose it all now! The only things you can’t change are the ALBUM TYPE and ALBUM SIZE.
Once you have selected all your images you will be asked to save the album design before you start the design process.
STEP 3: ADD YOUR IMAGES!
Now, let’s add your images! To do this simply click IMAGE on the top tool bar and ADD IMAGES from the drop down menu, or you can do it from the ADD IMAGES in the Photo Preview panel at the bottom.
Once you have done this, simply guide the software to the folder of images you want to add to the software. (TIP: To save time, group all images you want to add in to one folder and simply select the folder and click OPEN. This will import all the images in the folder to save you doing it one at a time!)
These images will now appear in the PHOTO PREVIEW on the bottom of your screen.
STEP 4: CREATE YOUR DESIGN
The fun really begins at the design process! (TIP: We recommend working in LEAF VIEW to design your album as you can see each double page spread)
USING MAT TEMPLATES
The easiest way to design a page is to use the MAT TEMPLATES on the left hand side of your screen. These are pre-formatted page templates to save you time! Simply select the template you wish to use and drag it across to the page you want to add it to.
CREATE YOUR OWN MAT DESIGNS
To create your own mat designs simply select EDIT on the bottom right hand side of the page you are working on. The CUSTOM MAT EDITOR The screen below will now pop up in a new window.
To create a new design simply select the SHAPE you wish to add to your design from the toolbar on the left. Now you can draw this shape on your mat design. The exact dimensions of the shape will appear in the toolbar on the right. (TIP: Save your favourite page designs for use in future albums to save time. Simply select ADD MAT TO FAVOURITES in the bottom right hand corner of the CUSTOM MAT EDITOR SCREEN)
STEP 5: PROOF & PREVIEW
There are two ways to create album proofs for your clients (or your own) editing!
This is perfect for studio viewings! To create a web slideshow of your album select PROOFING from the top tool bar and CREATE WEB SLIDESHOW from the dropdown menu. (TIP: This can only be created on the same computer that has the album images stored on it)
Need to send your clients a PDF for their preview? Select PROOFING from the top tool bar and CREATE PDF LAYOUT from the dropdown menu. (TIP: We recommend you select 4 MATS per page to ensure room for clients to make notes etc). This file will open up in your internet browser and you can then save a copy as a pdf.
STEP 6: ORDER!
Before you order we recommend you check all the album options selected to make sure you have all your details entered correctly. To do this, select ALBUM from the top tool bar and ALBUM PROPERTIES from the dropdown menu. Please check every tab to ensure all the information is correct.
Once you are happy all the information is correct, simply select ORDER from the top tool bar and SEND ORDER FOR ALBUMS & IMAGES from the dropdown menu.
We know this is a very simple view of the album design process, however, hopefully it is enough to get you started! If you want to find out more check out our youtube videos or email firstname.lastname@example.org !
Happy Designing Folks!
